Instead of everyone leaving the conference room and the hotel, we all decided on remaining, to hash out everything once and for all.

Lord Bekan, ever the organizer - never mind that he was dead only moments before - got everyone seated around the large conference table. He apologized the whole time, stating that while he was aware of the impending rank changes, he would seat everyone according to their original ranking. No one seemed to care where they sat; everyone was still more or less in a daze. The two donors sat huddled together on a loveseat in a corner, relieved that they were no longer test subjects.

I had that airy, floating feeling again. A feeling of relief really, as I knew that amongst the Master Vampires present, none would dare attempt to harm me or what I cherished. Neither would the Queen, who appeared resigned to the changes.

As Lord Bekan stood behind the Queen's chair, wondering what to say or do next, I stood up to speak.

"Your Majesty...brothers and sisters...please believe me when I say that I do not desire to be Queen...nor do I believe that any of the other Master Vampires here with the sacred blood of the Lord Shemhazai will try to usurp the throne." I paused to see relieved looks on the faces of the other vampires. "However - it is obvious from Her Majesty's tests that some of us are more powerful than we were before, so as protocol dictates, our ranking must be re-written and available for all in the vampire community." I sat down.

Bekan came from behind Queen Makafisa's chair.

'Lady Isis is most compassionate and wise" he stated. He bowed deeply before me. Then he turned towards the table to face the other vampires. "After the ranks have been updated, I will see to it that every High Sire across the globe receives notification."

"I trust that we can spare the details?" asked Lord Mikal.

"Of course" I said. "All the other vampires need to know is that the Master Vampire ranking is changed. Period. Let them guess and gossip as they will. None of them will be stupid enough to confront any of us and demand details."

Lord Mikal smiled. "True..."

Lord Bekan then asked the Master Vampires to stand. When the Queen began to rise from her seat, Bekan gently placed a hand on her shoulder, and pushed her back into her chair. "You are still our Queen, Your Majesty." he whispered. With that statement, the dazed and confused look on Queen Makafisa's face cleared away. She looked down at her ruined gown and said "Bekan - make sure that this establishment's house-keeping is well compensated for cleaning up this mess and keeping quiet."

"Of course, Your Majesty" re replied, with a small smile.

She then glanced towards the two donors and said "And I trust that you two will say nothing of what happened here?" Both of them nodded vigorously, without saying a word.

"Good. You two humans are privileged to be here. Well...let us begin then" she snapped.

Lord Bekan then asked "Will Lady Isis, Lord Mikal, Lord Gad, Lord Ankh-Re and Lord Erik please come before the fire?"

It was then that I noticed that we were more or less being called forward by our new ranking in The High Council.

"Fellow council members...I must say that if this is the preliminary line up, Lord Mikal should come before me" I stated, surprising everyone.

"Lady Isis - I cannot raise the dead!" replied Lord Mikal in amazement.

"True" I replied. "Yet you are the oldest here after the Queen, and obviously carry at least some drops of Nephilim blood within you. You were born a vampire, while I was previously human. You should come before me, my Lord."

Everyone's amazement of me was melded with a giant swell of respect. "What a great queen...or politician you'd make." Ankh-Re said to me telepathically. I suppressed the smile that threatened to form upon my lips.

I wanted to reply to Ankh-Re by stating that while I was the most powerful being in the room with the ability to dispatch any of them at any time, I had no desire to. The fact that I could would keep everyone in line...perhaps. But, I kept that thought to myself.

For the next hour, we were moved about the council table like pieces on a chess board. It was somewhat gratifying for me to see Lord Aray and Lady Anala become pawns.

Test Time.

When the raven-haired beauty and the blonde man were escorted into the conference room, they were ordered to stand in front of the fireplace.

I noticed worried looks upon the faces of their masters; none of us had any idea as to what was about to happen. We did all feel that it wouldn't be good. Their masters were having second thoughts about bringing along their donors as Lord Bekan had requested. It then occurred to me that I wasn't asked to bring any of my three donors to the council...nor was Lord Gad, Ankh-Re, nor Lord Erik, for that matter. Not that any of them had any personal donors, as far as I knew. Was it out of some sort of fearful deference, perhaps?

The Queen's voice snapped me out of my musings. I didn't feel airy and detached anymore.

"What is your name, child?" the Queen asked the black-haired woman. "Sarah" came the fearful reply. "Ah...and you are indeed a princess" said Queen Makafisa, in reference to the woman's Hebrew name. She suddenly made a quick twisting motion with her hands while staring at Sarah...Sarah dropped to the floor, with a broken neck. Her head was backwards; Sarah looked like a broken doll. Lady Sirara let out a strangled cry, and was held back from rushing to Sarah by Lord Kratos, who had tears in his eyes.

Queen Makafisa turned to Lord Erik. "Bring her back" she said flatly. Erik was frozen where he stood. The Queen then turned to Lord Aray. "Can you bring her back to us, Lord Aray?"

Lord Aray's usual haughty features morphed into the face of a frightened child. "Everyone knows that only you can bring life to the dead, Your Majesty" he croaked.

"Really?" asked the Queen. "I'm not so sure anymore." She then turned back to Erik. "Lord Erik...bring this woman back to life, if you please." Her request was a demand.

Erik looked at me, afraid. Telepathically, I told him to calm himself, and do what was commanded of him.

"Are you freakin' kidding me? How do I do that?"

"Concentrate, little brother. You have the magic, and the blood of the Nephilim coursing through your veins now." I said.

Erik walked over to the crumpled body of Sarah. He gently placed his hands on her brow, then closed his eyes, praying for a miracle. He then raised both of his hands and made a twisting motion in the opposite direction of Makafisa's hand motions. When Sarah's head returned to its proper position, she slowly opened up her eyes and sat up. Sirara and Kratos rushed over to her, falling to their knees with grateful tears.

The Queen's face was immobile. I thought

"Yes...you aren't the only one who can raise the dead now, huh?" I kept my thoughts blocked from everyone, of course.

"Lord Erik...You have indeed proven to us all that you are a very powerful being indeed" Makafisa uttered.

By then, Lady Anala's slave knew that he was next. Queen Makafisa walked around him, eyeing him up and down appreciatively. She gently glided a hand down his spine. His blue eyes were wide with fear as he looked at Anala beseechingly.

"What is your name again, golden one?" The Queen asked.

"Martin" he whispered.

"Well Martin...as Lord Erik and I will be excluded in raising you up, let's hope that another Master Vampire here can do it." She pulled a small jewel-encrusted dagger from the folds of her gown, and slit Martin's throat. Instinctively, he put his hands up to his neck to quench the flow of blood as he slowly crumpled to his knees.

"Help me..." Martin gasped, while lying on the floor. The pool of blood expanded quickly around his head, giving Martin a crimson halo. Lady Anala, in her grief, rushed to him and tried to raise him from the dead, as if she could actually do it. I felt sorry for them both. The Queen's cruelty made me angry. Before I made my attempt to bring Martin back to life, Ankh-Re took charge of the situation and did it himself. Lady Anala - covered in Martin's blood - crawled to Ankh-Re, and kissed his shoes.

"Another one to the top of the list" the Queen dryly remarked while watching the display. Ankh-Re said nothing as he helped Anala and Martin to their feet.

Her Majesty turned upon Sarah again. This time, she took her sword and cut off the poor woman's head. "What the fuck?" shouted Ankh-Re, forgetting all propriety.

Makafisa ignored Ankh-Re's outburst, and turned towards Lord Gad. "You should be familiar with beheadings" she said sarcastically.

Lady Sirara and Lord Kratos were huddled together, sobbing uncontrollably.

Gad took a deep breath, and walked over to pick up Sarah's head. A big hank of hair was also cut off when the head was removed. He picked that up as well, but instead of keeping it with the head, he tossed the mane of black hair into the fire, where it crackled and hissed in the flames.

"Okay pretty girl" Gad murmured to the head, as he placed it back on its neck. "Let's put you back into one piece, okay?" He began a dirge that went back to his mother's time in ancient Phoenicia. As he laid his hands upon the body, the head slowly reattached itself. Skin grafted to skin, and the seam was flawless. Even Sarah's hair grew out to its original length. When the Queen had reattached Gad's head millennia ago, one could see the handiwork. Gad's magic triumphed over that of the Queen's. Everyone was mesmerized.

"One more to the top of the list" the Queen said, which much less enthusiasm.

She turned towards the slave Martin.

"No more...please" I said. Queen Makafisa raised an eyebrow. "Why not?" she almost hissed. "You - of all of us present - should be able to put on a rousing spectacle."

The rest of the master vampires watched the evolving scene with horror on their faces; it had been awhile since any of us had seen such a display of carnage from the Queen. None of us wanted to see anymore.

Everyone glanced towards me, then towards Her Majesty. The face-off was on. I did not want things to go this way. I was hoping that she - and everyone else - would just go along with the belief that I could do wonders without actually having to prove anything. A stupid wish, of course.

I turned to Lord Bekan and simply said "I'm sorry, my Lord. Trust me when I say that you'll be back with us shortly..." I did not touch him, nor did I make any magical movements with my hands. I didn't utter any incantations. I simply willed him to death with my mind alone. It was something that master vampires could do to humans, but not to another vampire - especially not to one such as the ancient high-ranking Lord Bekan. With his death, it was the Queen's turn to cry out with grief. She fell to the floor, and tried to raise Bekan up, oblivious to her gown's crushed pearls. She managed to get him to open his eyes briefly - without the benefit of her sacred box of magical cures - but he quickly fell back into death. It was a pitiful sight.

Ankh-Re walked up to me, and put his arm around my shoulders. Whatever was about to happen next, he wasn't going to let the Queen get her way without a fight. Then to my amazement, all of the other vampires stood behind me.

"So - this is it? This is how you treat your Queen?"

She cradled Lord Bekan's head in her lap, sobbing uncontrollably. It was a sight that none of us would ever forget.

"Backstabbing dogs!" she cried out, in between her sobs.

Finally someone spoke up...me. I was sincere with my words.

"Your Majesty" I stated "I have no desire to be Queen."

She looked at me through teary eyes, and spat out "What do you want then?" I thought for a moment, then replied "I just want to go home."

With that statement, I willed Lord Bekan to life.

He wore a puzzled look upon his face, and stood up abruptly, bringing the Queen to her feet. Everyone then took their seats, still in a daze.

Lord Mikal broke the deafening silence. "Your Majesty" he said, in his usual calm manner "You are still our Queen, but your rule is no longer absolute. It appears that we now have a constitutional monarchy."

Serious implications for all?

20:52 Mar 29 2014
Times Read: 675

It was two days before the council meeting resumed. Lord Bekan had sent text messages to all of us to return to the conference room at The Sir Frances Drake Hotel. Lord Erik accompanied me, as he was still residing in my home. The text message I received explicitly stated that I bring Lord Erik to the meeting if he was still a guest in my home.

As Stanley drove the car across the Bay Bridge to San Francisco, Erik sat in the back of the car next to me, nervously cracking his knuckles.

"Shit. I can't believe this is happening..." he mumbled. "Sorry - your ladyship."

"Stop worrying" I replied. "And call me Isis, dammit."

Erik nodded vigorously, causing a lock of long blonde hair to fall across his right eye.

He looked at me with a bemused look upon his face. "You sound more American every day" he stated, in his Texan drawl. "Not so much the accent, but the way you say things now..."

"I've been working on it" I replied.

"It's funny how local cultures and speech can grow on us'" Erik said. "I've been in the States - and Texas in particular - more than any other place. My Norwegian accent is long gone..."

We both laughed. Erik seemed to relax a little.

When we entered the conference room, I noticed a table full of refreshments that was not available the first time we met. Previously, there was a stocked bar, with a small table of fruits; this time, there was a huge table laden with a spiral ham, cheese platters, more fruit, and carafes of blood.

Apparently, we were going to be in a meeting of some duration.

As we were the first to arrive, we nibbled on what was available from the table, and wandered around the conference room, awaiting the others.

The first to arrive after Erik and I was Lord Pen. He wore his long red hair pulled back into a neat ponytail. The navy blue suit he wore was impeccable. He looked great, but was uncomfortable, as he kept adjusting his collar and tie.

Lord Erik nodded to Lord Gad respectably, and stated "I don't usually wear a suit and tie either, my Lord." Gad laughed, and extended a hand out to Erik. He then noticed the table, and went directly for one of the carafes filled with blood.

"Do any of you know where this came from?" Gad asked.

"Not a clue" replied Erik.

"I'm sure that Lord Bekan procured the blood from a reliable source" I stated.

"Of course" Gad said, as he poured himself a glass.

The next vampires to arrive were Lady Sirara and Lord Kratos. They had their beautiful raven-haired donor with them, whom they immediately escorted to a side room and closed the door. "Good evening, everyone" said Lord Kratos cheerfully.

"Good evening. You two look fabulous...as usual." I said. Lady Sirara perked up at my compliment.

"Thank you, Lady Isis. I usually look to you for fashion inspiration."

Really? I thought. She and Kratos wore matching black tuxedos. I love menswear styles on women, when they can carry it off. Sirara succeeded.

The next to arrive was Lady Ma-zu, followed immediately by Lord Sebastian. Of all the Master Vampires - besides Ankh-Re - those two were dearest to me. I embraced Ma-zu and gave her a kiss on each cheek; I did the same to Sebastian.

Although Ma-zu was of Chinese heritage, she wore a gorgeous kimono with a giant pink peony pattern. As was her custom, she wore her long straight black hair flowing down her back.

Sebastian wore a grey pinstriped Edwardian three-pieced suit. It matched his silvery grey eyes perfectly. I found myself undressing him in my mind, and I did not block my thoughts from him. His cheeks immediately turned pink under his olive skin. I laughed out loud, and gave him a pat on the back.

I introduced Erik to the master vampires present, and they all seemed to take an immediate liking to him.

"I recall seeing you at the last ball...you are one of the ones who received The Order of Makafisa for your help in dealing with Julia, right?" said Lord Aray when he entered the conference room. The other vampires stiffened at the mention of Julia's name. Aray threw his overcoat across a nearby chair, as he sauntered over to the bar. He poured himself a shot of tequila, which he immediately threw back, then gazed at everyone present with his usual superior expression on his face. Lord Aray had a way of making others around him uncomfortable, and he enjoyed every minute of it. The smug beautiful bastard.

Lord Gad arrived, dressed in the same black Armani suit that Lord Aray also wore. It brought a few laughs to those assembled, and lightened the mood somewhat. When Lord Mikal arrived, the mood became somewhat somber...which irritated Lord Mikal.

"Oh please. I'm not one of the Nephilim, so stop acting as though I am. Good grief..."

Besides the Queen, Lord Mikal actually was one of the closest things to the Nephilim. No wait...I was now the closest thing to the Nephilim. I really didn't know whether I should be truly elated, or filled with dread.

When Ankh-Re arrived, I was relieved.

"Greetings, everyone" he said, as he made a beeline directly to me. "Isis...my love" he whispered, as he kissed my neck. He also wore a black Armani suit, but of a different cut. There were a few chuckles in the room.

"Yes...it's a night for Armani" said Lord Aray, with an audible sniff of disapproval. I actually laughed out loud. Aray glanced at me with daggers in his eyes. I shrugged and laughed some more. Ankh-Re put an arm over my shoulders and walked me over to the food table.

"Have some ham, woman." he said, with a serious look upon his face.

"I don't want any damn ham" I replied, as I walked away from him and the table. I had that airy not-a-care-in-the-world feeling again. I couldn't care less if Aray was angry...if I upset his lordship. Fuck him. When I glanced at him, he didn't glare as he usually did to anyone who dared to challenge him. He looked away instead. Good boy, I thought...and I did not block my thoughts from him.

I was in rare form by the time that slut Anala arrived, with her blonde slave in tow. While she wore a long-sleeved form-fitting red gown, very little skin was exposed. She made a hurried greeting to everyone as she shoved her slave into the same side room where Sirara and Kratos placed their donor. Then she approached me with an enthusiastic embrace. "Oh Lady Isis...what a joy to see you so soon!" I thought 'Bitch - are you kidding me?' I embraced her with less enthusiasm, and mumbled a greeting to her. She then flitted over to Ankh-Re. "Oh my Lord Ankh-Re...I love your new look. You are gorgeous with or without hair..." She then fell upon Erik, whose blonde good looks definitely caught her eye. "Ooooo...Lord Erik!" She gave him a hug, and almost smothered him with her huge breasts. I wanted to pimp slap her. I thought about what I just said in my mind, and recalled how I was beginning to sound more and more like my donors David and Robert. I chuckled to myself. This was going to be an entertaining evening for me.

When Lord Bekan escorted the Queen into the conference room, everyone stood up straight and quieted down. "I'm so damn nervous" Erik stated to me telepathically. "Don't worry - you're in. It's just a matter of who will outrank who now" I replied back.

"Oh - that makes me feel so much better" he said.

After Queen Makafisa sat down, Lord Bekan cleared his throat to get everyone's undivided attention.

"As we are all aware, this is a council meeting of the upmost importance. As most of you can guess, we will be inducting Lord Erik among our ranks."

He looked at Erik and said "Welcome to the High Council, Lord Erik." Everyone stood up and applauded. Erik stood up slowly, and acknowledged everyone present. The Order of Makafisa sparkled on the lapel of his jacket. The Queen then stood up and walked over to the crackling fireplace. From the mantle, she withdrew her sword from its scabbard. On cue, Erik walked over to the fireplace.

We all turned to face the ceremony. Erik dropped to his knees, with his head bowed.

"I, Queen Makafisa, induct Lord Erik Olafsson of Norway, of the Raven Clan, into the sacred High Council of Vampires as a Master Vampire." She tapped the side of her sword on his left shoulder, then the right - a bit too hard, in my opinion. The Queen then bit into one of her fingers, to allow Erik a few drops of her sacred blood.

When Erik stood up, Lord Bekan lead him to a small desk, where he had to sign an oath with his own blood, to be forever faithful to the Council. Lord Erik punctured a small hole into his left index finger, then dipped a quill into it. He signed his name with a flourish, and it was done. Everyone applauded again.

Before anyone else could greet Erik as a fellow council member, Lady Anala grabbed him for another smothering hug. "Welcome, dear brother!" she quipped. Ankh-Re and I looked at each other, and rolled our eyes.

When the Queen resumed her seat, the rest of the vampires did likewise.

It was a moment before Queen Makafisa spoke; she was obviously gathering her thoughts. When she finally opened her mouth, she stated matter-of-factly "We will now begin tests to establish our new ranking."

Tests? Everyone inhaled - gasped, really.

The Queen nodded to Lord Bekan, who went over to the side room to bring out the donors.

"The results of these tests will have serious implications for all of us." she said. I could have sworn that there was resignation in her voice.

The Council meeting.

01:18 Mar 24 2014
Times Read: 738

As he had implied, Ankh-Re was not seen or heard from in weeks.

When I finally saw his face again, it was at a highly anticipated council meeting. Queen Makafisa must have been chomping at the bit, as she and all of the Master Vampires were still in the area, impatiently awaiting news. They were all aware that Shemhazai was in control, and had an extended stay in my house. They knew that Ankh-Re, Gad, Erik and I were healed and whole again.

I must state that usually, I more or less dread council meetings. I always like to get them over with, to return to my beloved home. But after all that had happened, I had a carefree I don't care attitude. I was looking forward to seeing everyone, and gauging their feelings. After all, Ankh-Re and I were not healed by the Queen, but by one of the Ancient Ones - one of the Nephilim. Shemhazai's power was much more than that of Her Majesty.

The council meeting was changed from the Mark Hopkins Hotel to a large conference room at the Sir Frances Drake Hotel in San Francisco. I found myself spending more time admiring the regal red, black, white, and gold décor, and less on worrying about the meeting and its contents. I greeted all of the master vampires with a degree of detachment - I really couldn't help myself. I felt as if I were floating over them all, and I didn't have a care in the world. I gauged hurt feelings from Lady Ma-zu, and I apologized for my distant behavior. I knew that Ankh-Re felt the same about being there...it was immensely gratifying to me when I saw him enter through the double doors of the conference room. He wore a simple but elegant black Armani suit...and his long lovely black curls were gone. Ankh-Re was completely bald. And he was beautiful.

"My love" he murmured as he brought my right hand to his lips for a feathery kiss.

Lord Gad joined us, greeting Ankh-Re with a playful rub on the head. "Now we have two baldies in the gang" he joked. We laughed.

I noticed Lord Mikal watching us with a bemused look upon his face. Nothing seemed to bother that ancient one either; he was almost Queen Makafisa's equal, yet always far more relaxed.

If anyone looked nervous, it was Lady Anala. She - as well as the others - knew that something was different about Ankh-Re and I. And she knew that I didn't care for her much. I had no plan on doing anything to her, but it was enjoyable to watch her squirm a little. She actually covered up the plunging neckline of her dress with a wrap, mumbling that there was a chill in the air. I almost laughed out loud.

All of our attention was focused on Lord Bekan when he entered the room. On cue, we all gathered around the large conference table, and awaited the Queen.

"This should be fun" said Ankh-Re to me telepathically. I agreed.

Queen Makafisa entered the room, ever the fashionista in a form-fitting wine-colored pantsuit.

Before I could say anything she looked directly at me and said "It's a Narcisco Rodriguez suit" with a radiant smile on her face.

I thought - that design house didn't make very many pantsuits. It also occurred to me that Her Majesty was wearing a designer I must've turned her on to, when I had that gown made for her as a gift. Normally, I would've said 'Score!' to myself, but I merely nodded and smiled back at her. Now...I really couldn't care if she liked the designer or not.

My thoughts were blocked of course, but I had a feeling that Ankh-Re knew what I was thinking, as he knew me so well. He hid a small smile by covering his mouth with a fake cough.

After the queen took her seat, we followed suit.

Lord Bekan stood behind the queen's chair, ever vigilant.

"Well - first off I'd like to be the one to say that we are all extremely happy that Lord Ankh-Re and Lady Isis - and Lord Gad - are well!"

The other vampires echoed her sentiment. They all stood up and applauded. For the most part, they all meant it. Gad, Ankh-Re and I also stood, to nod politely to each vampire. The queen stood a bit too straight, and her smile was a tad too bright.

When she finally took her seat, everyone else did likewise.

"Before we go on to the rest of the agenda, we'd like to hear about your recoveries, if you don't mind..."

"Of course, Your Majesty" replied Ankh-Re. He gave them the annotated version on how he attacked me due to the zombie infection, how Shemhazai - Huey - stopped him, and how we were both healed, in addition to the raising up and healing of Lord Gad and Lord Erik. There was an audible gasp amongst the other vampires. Again, I wanted to laugh, but I kept my mouth and mind quiet.

Lord Gad spoke up. "Well, it's obvious to everyone here that I'm now of sound mind and body." He pulled down the collar of his shirt. "Notice any scars from any of my beheadings? Nope."

"Praise be to the Lord Shemhazai" said the queen.

"Yes...praise Lord Shemhazai. I'm no longer a nightstalker. I can now go out into the daylight" added Lord Gad.

'Um..." murmured Lord Sebastian. 'Um...was this transformation from drinking Lord Shemhazai's blood?"

"Of course" replied Lord Gad. "His blood and his magic."

There was complete silence around the table. No one had to think hard to see that the master vampire ranks were forever altered.

Queen Makafisa finally spoke up. She was a slight step ahead of everyone. "It seems apparent that we should make this Lord Erik a member of this council, seeing as he carries within him the sacred blood of our great Lord Shemhazai."

"He is also an honorable vampire, who has always served the community well" I added.

"Yes - of course" said the Queen.

There was more silence around the table. It was finally broken by Ankh-Re. "Look. I know that all of you are reflecting on how much blood and magic we received from Lord Shemhazai, and are trying to measure power and ranking in your heads. I can say for a fact that I fed from the Lord's wrist on several occasions. I'm assuming that Lord Gad and Lord Erik did as well. As for the Lady Isis...' Ankh-Re looked directly at me. "...Lady Isis spent three days and nights with the Lord in her bedroom. I guess you can figure it out from there."

Everyone looked at me...in awe. Even the Queen's normally unreadable emotions were evident. For a split second I could have sworn that I saw a glimmer of fear in her eyes. Which was ridiculous, as I had no desire to take her place. In any case, what Ankh-Re said was true.

"Lady Isis...could you please tell us how much of the holy blood did you consume?" Finally...Her Majesty was getting to the point of the issue now.

"Let me see..." I feigned some ignorance. "I'm not really sure. As you must know, Your Majesty, spending time with one of our founding fathers tends to keep one in a dreamy state..."

"Of course" the queen snapped. "Take your time reflecting upon this, my dear."

'My dear'...really? I thought. I suppressed another urge to laugh. After watching them all squirm, I finally said "About two cups of blood, your Majesty."

There was a huge audible gasp amongst the master vampires. The Queen - along with Lady Anala - openly had what looked like apoplectic fits. Gone was the powerful elegant veneer.

"Two cups? Two cups of holy blood?"

"Yes, Your Majesty. give or take an ounce or two. I can assure you that I did not mean to be greedy. The Lord Shemhazai bade me to drink my fill, so I did as he commanded."

I continued on. 'Huey - Lord Shemhazai - also made me bathe in some of his blood. Well - some of his blood was added to a bath..."

The Queen stood up abruptly. "We will take a recess and meet again tomorrow..." She stormed out of the conference room, with Lord Bekan running after her.

The rest of the council followed suit, which left Ankh-Re, Gad, and I alone.

"Eeerrr...that was different" stated Gad.

Ankh-Re let out a huge belly laugh. "It sure was. Everything will be different now. Sometimes change isn't a bad thing, you know."

I mumbled an agreement. I truly wasn't interested in taking the Queen's place, or any other master vampire's, for that matter. I was more concerned that I lied to everyone. I didn't drink two cups of Huey's blood...it was more like a goddamn gallon of the stuff.
